The wife and I went to Las Vegas back in November to attend our first professional prize fight, Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev. The atmosphere during the main event was electrifying. Needless to say, we had an amazing time, however, there were a few things that we did not know and would of done differently. Therefore, if you are planning on a trip to Vegas for the upcoming fight or any other fight keep the following in mind.
First, the under card bouts happen all day long. This was not common knowledge because we were use to watching the bouts on pay-per-view. Whenever we watched pay-per-view we usually watch 3 under card fights and then the main event. Some may already understand the length of time and that there are actually a lot of fights before the main event. However, this was not the problem. The problem was not being able to re-enter once you enter the fight. Since this was our first fight we went to check it out at 2 pm and were stuck there until after the main event. The main event ended around 11pm. Therefore, our plan to go check out the fight, leave to grab some food, get changed for the main event and then return was out the window. Do not get me wrong, we enjoyed some of the under card fights, but 7 hours until the main event started was a little overkill for our taste. This may not be a problem to some but it was not our ideal situation.
As stated above, the atmosphere was amazing and we had a great time, but, we wish we would of spent a few extra dollars for lower level seats. Aside from the steepness of the stairs in the upper level, we had to watch the fight mainly on the big screen, which blacked out on numerous occasions. Having to watch the fight mainly on the big screen took away from the fight. Therefore, we would suggest you pay to be a little closer. Plus, the steepness of the steps makes it difficult (rather a fearful experience for some) to use the bathroom. Just ask my wife, who refused to walk up those steps for the entire time we were in the arena.
Finally, I would suggest doing what you are there for and that is to have a good time. Remember as in my last post getting away improves your health, relationship, and overall quality of life. Therefore, use this time to relax, recharge, and refocus by taking in the moment with your significant other or friends. Generate those memories that are enhanced through the bonding that is taking place. After the fight, if your in sin city, take advantage of all the after parties along the strip. The experience of Las Vegas after the main event was just as enjoyable as the fight. So remember, if you are going to Ward vs Kovalev 2 or any other fight, plan your day accordingly, so you do not end up stuck in the arena all day, try to get closer seats if it is within your means, and enjoy yourself.
